Mel and Leighton are such a caring and knowledgeable duo. We have so appreciated their insight, and the way they calmly impart their coaching wisdom. Our connection with our dog has been really enhanced with their care and help.

When it’s pack walk day our dog is so happy! She can’t wait- and it’s utter magic seeing them and their van of doggies pull into our drive to pick our girl up.

They have been great with Nala and are always willing to give handy tips to make life a little easier and much happier. It’s also great that they home board if you have to go away. You can feel reassured that your dog will be well looked after and part of their family. I have also taken advantage of the training sessions they run. Dougal started with the pack farm walks once a week, and then we did the basic training 5 week course. Dougal is a big strong dog and was under 2 when we started. He was pulling me quite a lot when on- lead walking and over the course of the training I learnt the skills needed to help eliminate this. I have needed these skills so much as we have just moved to Canada and are in an apartment with a lift and doing lots of city walking. The heel, focus, and leave it are used constantly as we navigate the corridors, lobbies and lifts. Mel has a very relaxed but controlled way with the dogs and is an excellent teacher. Dougal will miss Mel and Leighton on his weekly walks. I hope to find something similar here.

I highly recommend ColourfulCanines NZ for any training with your dog. Mel and Leighton have been fantastic with my daughter’s reactive dog. We never dreamt we would be able to watch him go off in a van full of all sorts of dogs and enjoy himself running free on a farm. All through his journey Mel and Leighton have been there offering advice and installing confidence in us to take Fred out for walks etc. We can never thank them enough for what they have done.

Our pups, Frankie and Hugo, love their pack walks and are learning how to have safe and respectful interactions with other dogs as well as a whole lot of fun. Mel is absolutely amazing with animals. I have never met someone so able to tune into different dogs & their needs. She has helped me manage my fur babies barking habit, helped with toilet training and is often giving me tips on how to make our time together the most enjoyable. I find it hard to trust people with my animals, she is my go to. I know my animals will get the best & always be looked after like her own. My dogs are absolutely fabulous walkers now all thanks to her, too! Absolutely the best in town, don’t go anywhere else!

I highly recommend Mel and Leighton at colourful canines! We started off with just our one boy Lux going to pack walks and then had our boy Zeus who we rehomed join the pack! We were uncertain as to how Zeus would be with other dogs but they welcomed him in and worked on his socialising skills. The boys are always very excited when they see the van arrive for their pack walk each week and come back absolutely shattered after their big day of adventures! Mel and Leighton are great to work with and provide feedback on how the doggies are highlighting areas that can be worked on however they also provide training whilst they have the boys! We love that we don’t have to worry to much when the boys are out as we know they are loved and taken care of from the minute they get picked up to the time they are dropped home.
